After the best first date ever, Lee thought Laura was funny, intelligent, and impulsive; a whirlwind of bright laughter and happiness. Laura loved Lee's sweet smile and the way he expertly filled in every awkward pause. He held her hand and then pulled her in for the most perfect kiss she’s had in years. What could possibly be wrong? Just the 7000 miles that separates them the next day.

Even though Lee has gone home to Seoul, Laura can't stop thinking about him. What starts as an innocent text thanking him for their dinner date becomes something much more: someone either of them can't live without. But Laura's got a live-in mother going through a midlife crisis, and Lee's stressful traveling schedule means they'll be apart for some time. Life, family, and a complicated past also get in the way, and they're both going to need actual face time to figure it out.

Told from both Lee and Laura’s point of view, FACE TIME is a funny, romantic, modern-day story about two people who connect across the world.

MY THOUGHTS

I have was highly anticipating to reading this book when I requested it on Netgalley. I am always looking for books revolving around long distance relationships, because they are just cute and it reminds me that I'm not the only one that's in one. And they are just cute. Really cute.

In this book we follow Laura who accidentally meets Lee, who is American Korean, but lives in South Korea. But of course he has to go back to Korea. They keep in contact though. Using Face Time.

The thing that bothered me was the entire Apple mention. IPhone. IPad. Macbook. Face Time. IPhoto. IMessage. (Author did mention that she was a total Apple girl in the beginning though) But. Really. Is that necessary. Instead of IPhone can't you just say 'cell phone' whatever brand it is? But okay, that was the author's decision, but it was a thing that kind of bothered me. Laura was constantly struggling with money and couldn't really pay her apartment on her own. Well, then maybe she shouldn't spend so much money on overpriced Apple products...But okay. Sorry. Maybe it is that my experiences with MacBooks are just bad.

I think this book qualifies a bit as insta-love. Lee and Laura did fall in love pretty quickly, talked a lot and really didn't want to separate from each other immediately. It's okay. I understand that. But it was a little unrealistic. Like, if I have known a person for 4 weeks, I wouldn't really have internet sexy times with them. (not that I ever would, damn, imagine ending up online...)

Despite this being an Adult book I was delighted to read that this didn't revolve around sex and how this book didn't contain extremely graphic descriptions of sex. I like that. Of course I was expecting things. But I was glad it wasn't so descriptive. It was there, but it wasn't the most important.

The book was definitely a fun read. I am still contemplating between 3 or 4 stars, because it was lots of fun, but it also was a little insta-love-ish. But I really liked it anyways. I loved the writing. There were a few terms I didn't really understand but that was probably because I'm a bit of a prude... But besides that, it was lots of fun and I really liked it.

I would definitely recommend it if anyone is looking for a fun read about a long distance relationship between two 30+ year olds. If you have read this book, let me know. Would love to hear about you!

  1. I haven't heard of this one and while it does sound interesting I think that the constant mentioning of a certain brand would annoy the hell out of me. I like when people use general terms. Still I'm glad you enjoyed this one. Great review, Sandra :)

    1. Well, at first it bothered me a lot, but after a while I just ignored it. It was a little bit odd how some little kids owned IPhones. When I was little, I owned a phone that could only call for when I needed to contact my mom. I couldn't even make shitty pictures. I mean. But I think that's just how it is now. Thanks for stopping by again, Tanja!

  2. Mmm...I have this one, I still need to get to it...I don't think I'd mind the whole brand thing, unless it is too much, and I think you are right...it doesn't make sense to complaint about money when you are spending it in this expensive products, there are cheaper ones. I general don't mind insta love much, unless it is definitely unrealistic...so, I'll guess I'll see what I feel about this one when I read it. I'm still are lookinf forward to it though, you made it seem like a nice read.

    1. It was a fun read, I'm sure you'll enjoy it at least a little bit! There were some things that bothered me, that's why it's not perfect, but it definitely amused me! I hope you enjoy it as well, Valeria!

  3. *hides macbook* Okay, I LOVE Apple products, but I can understand why it'd be annoying to read if you didn't. Also...yes, all technology is rather expensive if you're struggling to pay rent/whatnot. So I find that weird...the character kind of isn't being very sensible about her money, then?!! >_<

    1. Hahhaa. I really don't like my macbook, but I own one. It was a purchase for school otherwise I wasn't allowed in the study. Such meanies. But it's kind of annoying to read the same brand over and over again. Even if it was Windows or Acer or whatever it was. Haha, yes that was what I was wondering as well!
